Disagreeing with your collaborator

How we get all this vlogging done

Follow the discussion at Hello Uncle Foreigner on YouTube.

Peter and I are usually on the same page about the work we produce, but occasionally we disagree. In this episode of the podcast, we talk about how we handle that, and discover our unspoken rule that we don’t post anything that we don’t unanimously love.

We also go back to last week’s somewhat confusing discussion of what I now realize was baby Postmodernism, and apply what I was talking about to some concrete examples in our repertoire. Ideas don’t matter as much as the way that you say them!

Also, there are a ton of links and references in this week’s episode:

Podcast: The best interview is a pre-interview

How we make our China vlog

Follow our podcast on YouTube.

Interviewing is all about getting your guest to say interesting things, and there’s definitely an art to it. This week, we discuss why pre-interviewing is necessary for a live shoot and some mistakes to watch out for.

Hello Foreigner: A one month look-back

How’s the new channel doing? Will you be a travel vlog?

The numbers are in!

In late December, we moved our YouTube channel to a new home: Hello Foreigner. And then, about a month into the experiment, we devoted an episode of our podcast (above) to a deep dive into the analytics of the new channel. It’s more fun than it sounds, I promise!

In our discussion, we address how we are defining success, and what factors — in addition to the change of address — led to the new channel’s taking off. Also, towards the end, we share some stories of weird hostels we’ve stayed in; and why we’re not ever going to be a travel blog.

Cultivated progress: Making art, individuality & punks behind Chinese walls

Uncle’s Shorts #38

We tackle Art this week, in about 8 minutes. So, you know … it’s pretty thorough.

The ending animation we did with our new Adonit Pixel stylus and this nifty animation app I found for my iPad. Animation, as you may know, is pretty labor intensive, but it’s also a lot of fun, so we’re excited to start expanding our repertoire in that direction.

Dave’s interview takes place outside of Luzhou, actually, in a suburb called Naxi. He brought us to this great little BBQ place, where you cook your own meats right on the table. I love cooking my own meats right on the table!
